What ships with our ferrofluid kits?

Pretty much everything that you need, with some exceptions...

Our ferrofluid replacement kits include:

  • Re-cappable 1ml. syringe, containing .500ul. of ferrotec brand ferrofluid - sans metal needle; the syringe's tip shape is sufficient to add ferrofluid to any voice coil gap. 500ul. of ferrofluid is more than enough to rejuvinate several pairs of 1" tweeters..

  • Heavy-Duty cut-marked paper - for cleaning the gap of dried up / gummy ferrofluid (if your tweeter shipped with ferrofluid from the factory. If not, do not add ferrofluid to it!).  Be patient and take your time when removing old ferrofluid remnants from the voice coil gap - it will take (many) passes of the alcohool saturated (see below) cleaning paper to remove all traces of the old product from gap. Then - carefully - remove old ferrofluid from the inner and outer faces of the voice coil former.  YouTube is your friend in this DIY adventure.  Please be extremely careful with the delicate voice coil former!

  • A pair of Cdn. Mfg., compostable, latex-free gloves - ferrofluid is messy and isopropyl alcohol can be hard on your skin - and extremely flammable, so please be careful and use common sense when handling it!

  • MSDS - Material Safety Data Sheet, which informs you on the safe use of the ferrofluid product (it's non-toxic, but I'm just being extra-safe)

What is not included, but necessary:

  • Tools and instructions to remove & disassemble your tweeter unit.  Google it, peruse YouTube or ask your speaker manufacturer

  • 99.9% isopropyl alcohol - necessary to (carefully!) clean the voice-coil and all other areas of the magnetic structure.  Strive to use 99% isopropyl alcohol at a minimum, as it nearly completely evaporates, compared to less intense alcohols such as rubbing alcohol (70%). Soak the aformentioned thick paper in the alcohol for about five seconds before each pass around the voice coil gap.

  • The process of disassembly, cleaning and reassembling a loudspeaker driver is well documented on YouTube and other online sources.  I suggest watching several different videos before you set out to replace the ferrofluid in your loudspeaker drivers.
